Photograph collection, [ca. 1900]-1975.

Black and white professional photographs of activities and services of Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service. Subject areas include Camp Shelter Island for the Aged, Blind, and Handicapped; family welfare; staff and board members; and recreational activities and industrial workshops for blind and handicapped, ca. 1920-1940's. Other photographs are of children and adults receiving services, workshops, scenes of New York City, and portraits. Of special note are lantern slides of street scenes in Brooklyn, private homes, and apartment buildings. Some slides illustrate crowded, dirty, and dimly lit tenement buildings of Brooklyn. Framed photographs include portraits of founders and board members. Another series of photographs are of Herriman Farm School showing boys engaged in various tasks of feeding animals, gardening, sports, and educational activities, 1952-1955. Collection includes color slides of Home Living Center, where homemaking training is offered to the blind, the physically handicapped, and the emotionally and mentally handicapped, 1974-1975. Many photographs are not fully identified.
